Community Gardens

The Community Garden is a space to plant and care for vegetables, flowers, and herbs. It positively contributes to environmental, social, economic sustainability, and overall community engagement.

The Garden features 28 rentable raised plots (4 by 6 feet), fruit trees, and a naturalized wildflower garden creating a space for pollinators to forage.

Located at the South-East corner of Perkinsfield Park (43 County Road 6, Tiny), the facility is a locked, fenced-in area with municipal water access, rain barrels, picnic tables, a communal tool storage shed.

In 2025, Tiny received an Inclusive Community Grant from the Province of Ontario to make our community garden more accessible for everyone. With this grant staff retrofitted the existing community garden space with accessible features including new raised garden beds, gardening tools, a gazebo, and picnic table. 

• History of the Community Gardens

  On June 1, 2019, Township of Tiny volunteers and staff were joined by representatives from Depave Canada and The Environment Network for the largest depave event in Canada. Attendees made significant progress in the Asphalt to Food Project by depaving the decommissioned tennis courts in Perkinsfield Park. Over 13,000 square feet of asphalt was removed from the courts and will be reused for township roads.

  Hard surfaces, such as unused tennis courts, prevent rain from soaking into the ground, which increases flood risk and pollutes the water in rivers and lakes. By removing unused asphalt and replacing it with green spaces, we are replenishing groundwater and beautifying our neighbourhoods.

  The township received $6,000 from The Environment Network in support of the Asphalt to Food Project. Based on feedback received from residents, the township plans to convert the depaved courts into a community garden and green space. Let us know how you want to see the space used.

• Volunteer and Engagement Opportunities

  Each year, the Township seeks a volunteer Community Garden Coordinator to oversee the Garden and enforce the Community Garden Policy and Code of Conduct. The Garden Coordinator helps organize volunteers and provides guidance and insight on garden improvements and areas of growth.   The Township is also seeking Community Gardeners to help by caring for communal plots (e.g. sensory gardens, herb spiral), including planting, watering, and weeding. The Township provides monies, supplies, and resources to volunteers. For more information and to apply for this position, contact environment@tiny.ca.

  Cash or in-kind donations of gardening tools, wood, vegetable seeds, and seedlings are welcome. Families and businesses can support Tiny's Community Garden by sponsoring a garden bed or making a generic sponsorship. Contact recreation@tiny.ca for more information on Tiny's Sponsorship Program.

• How to Rent a Plot

  The Community Garden is open annually from May to October. Each year, gardeners pay an annual fee to register and rent a plot from the township.
