Please note: The burning of leaves is strictly prohibited. Pine Needles are the ‘leaves’ of coniferous trees and are therefore prohibited as well.

Fire permits can be purchased through the Township of Tiny Office, at 130 Balm Beach Road West, Perkinsfield (9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.) Monday - Friday.

They can also be purchased at the following locations during their regular business hours:

There have been several chimney fires recently in the municipality.
These fires can, and often do, spread to other areas of the residential structure and can result in total destruction of the building and its contents. It is imperative to the safety of the household that all wood burning appliances be installed and maintained in accordance with all applicable Codes and Standards. The Ontario Fire Code requires homeowners to ensure their appliances and chimneys are maintained in a safe operating condition through periodic inspections and maintenance.
Chimneys should be cleaned by a WETT (Wood Energy Technical Training) Certified chimney sweep on at least an annual basis, and more frequently if the appliance is used as a primary heat source. The use of Chimineas or any other outdoor wood-burning fireplace requires a Fire Permit for use within the Township of Tiny.
Chimineas have become a popular item for backyard recreational enjoyment. Over the last few years they have been available through retail chain stores and home centres. The popularity of Chimineas is still growing and due to this popularity, it is more important than ever for consumers to be aware of how to safely use and care for this unique "firepot."
The quality of Chimineas currently available varies dramatically. At one end of the spectrum, there are the basic terra-cotta clay models, some of which are not baked or kiln dried. Many of these models are not painted or sealed to help protect the clay from the weather. At the other end of the spectrum are the El barro clay models, which typically have been fired and upon drying are painted and/or sealed.
Cast iron or aluminum Chimineas are considered a better product as they require lower maintenance and are more durable than other models. However, they retain more heat than the clay models, thus present a greater burn injury hazard.
Price does not dictate whether or not you have purchased the best or the worst model. However, regardless of what type of Chiminea you have, there is some maintenance involved.
Chimineas are for outdoor use only, and should never be burned indoors!
Although most people are conscientious, there are a few "common sense" tips just to be on the safe side.
1. Recommend that a fire extinguisher be available when burning in your Chiminea. A small 5 lbs A.B.C. dry chemical extinguisher should do fine.
2. Never leave your fire unattended.
3. Do not touch the outside of the Chiminea while it is in use or immediately after use.
4. Be aware of children and pets.
5. Never use gasoline or other petroleum based accelerants to get the fire going.
6. Do not extinguish your Chiminea fire with water.
7. Positioning Your Chiminea:
  
  Be sure to find a level, immovable, non-combustible surface for which to set your Chiminea. It should be placed at least a minimum of 7m from combustibles such as a fence, deck, house/cottage, etc. Be sure there is nothing above your Chiminea, i.e. branches, awnings, umbrellas or anything else that could potentially catch on fire. Remember; do not put your Chiminea in a gazebo, or enclosed porch.
1. Pressure treated wood (emits toxic gases when burned)
2. Anything that will produce dense black smoke, i.e. plastics, rubber
3. Herbicides, pesticides or any other toxic material
  
  Pellets (they tend to burn very hot)
4. Charcoal
1. There have been reports of the bottoms falling out of both clay and metal chimineas. This supports the importance of placing it on a non-combustible surface.
2. Gusts of wind have been known to blow hot embers onto dry grass, decks or neighbouring properties causing fires.
3. Use extreme care when opening the front grill when a fire is in progress. Ensure a non-combustible surface extends out 18 inches from the front of the chiminea to protect the area from falling burning material.
Clean wood may be burned on the property where it was generated provided that the requirements of the Municipal Fire Permit have been complied with. As per MOE regulations, once wood from land clearing operations, including stumps, has been removed from a property it is to be considered "Wood Waste".
For the disposal of this material, the Ministry of Environment issues "Stump Dump" certificates of approval for disposal sites. Once waste wood is removed from a property, the wood waste is not to be open-air burned as a method of disposal.
The open-air burning of "Waste Materials" is not permitted in Ontario.
The Township of Tiny Fire and Emergency Services has implemented a Zero Tolerance Residential Smoke Alarm Program.
The Township of Tiny Fire and Emergency Service will be applying a zero-tolerance enforcement approach to all homeowners and landlords who are discovered not to have a working smoke alarm installed on every storey of their homes or recreational dwelling units.
Working smoke alarms are an extremely effective and inexpensive tool in providing critical seconds to allow a rapid and safe escape from a burning building. Experience and fire tests clearly indicate that occupants have as little as ninety seconds to evacuate their homes from the onset of a fire.
Fire personnel have encountered numerous instances recently where working smoke alarms were not installed in accordance with the Ontario Fire Code.
Penalties for non-compliance range from a ticketed fine of $235.00 to a charge under the Provincial Offences Act that carries a fine of up to $50,000 and/or one-year imprisonment.

Fire Safety inspections of various occupancies are conducted on a request or complaint basis, as required by The Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997.
In addition, a number of buildings have been identified for inspections based on the nature and occupant load of the building.
Fire safety information and advice is made available to residents and property owners to assist them in reducing the likelihood of a fire and to ensure they know the appropriate actions to take in the event of afire.
