(Tiny, Ontario) The Township of Tiny is excited to announce that we will be increasing public beach access with a newly acquired property in the Sawlog Bay area.

The township recently completed negotiations with representatives from Municipal Investments Ltd. to acquire 8.26 acres of land on Georgian Bay. With the purchase of this property at the intersections of Champlain Road, Clearwater Crescent, and Sawlog Point Road, it guarantees that over 207 metres of new publicly owned waterfront will be available for the residents of Tiny going forward. A map of this land is available on the second page of this release.

“One of the strategic priorities of Council is preserving and increasing access to one of our greatest assets in Tiny, the shoreline of beautiful Georgian Bay,” said Mayor David Evans. “We couldn’t be more excited to secure this waterfront property for the public as new recreational space for the whole community to enjoy this additional beach access.”

The property includes two portions of land, Block B and Block C on Registered Plan 1371. The Township of Tiny purchased Block B for $4.5 million and Block C is being donated by Municipal Investments Ltd. to the township for a $538,000 tax receipt.

In recognition of the donation of a portion of the waterfront property, the township has agreed to hold a future dedication event in the name of Joseph Axler and the Axler family (Municipal Investments Ltd.). We are profoundly grateful to the Axler family for their generous contribution, which will benefit the Tiny Township community for generations to come. Their dedication and commitment to preserving our waterfront are truly appreciated.

Staff will present a report to Council at a future meeting to determine the best use of the remaining land, such as subdividing a portion of the property for future residential development. This will generate revenue to offset the purchase price and provide a positive financial result for Tiny Township.
