Fire & Emergency Services

We exist to serve our 'customers.' We have a dedicated complement of volunteers who provide a variety of services to our residents and visitors and we strive to make our municipality a fire-safe place to live, work, and play.

We encourage feedback on all of the services we provide and I encourage all residents to contact me directly at dflewelling@tiny.ca​ to discuss any service delivery comments or concerns they may have.

In as much as our staff do everything possible to enhance public safety, we cannot do it alone. Typically, fire department response times in rural areas predicate that residents take responsibility for their, and their families' safety.

Having working smoke alarms on every storey and adjacent sleeping areas in residential dwelling units is required by law. Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms are also required outside all sleeping areas within a dwelling unit. A zero-tolerance policy is currently in place regarding both the installation and maintenance of working smoke alarms, as required by the Ontario Fire Code.



Fines for failing to install and maintain working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are a minimum of $360 per offence.​

These life-saving devices are essential components for enhancing life safety and the value of a practiced home escape plan cannot be overstated.

We need to work hand-in-hand with our residents to create a community where no one is hurt by fire and we are always available to provide advice and guidance on any fire safety or emergency preparedness questions or concerns you may have. To this end, in 2015 we introduced our Home Fire Safety Audit Program. By simply calling us at 705-322-1161 we will send, free of charge, an audit team to your home to help identify any visible fire safety hazards and offer suggestions as to how to remedy them. We will also install both smoke or CO alarms to ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code. We simply ask that you pay a greatly reduced price for the alarms installed if you have the means to do so. Participation in this program provides the residents with Amnesty to our Zero tolerance policy as long as you are in compliance with both CO/Smoke regulations upon our departure from the residence. We ask that all residents of the Township of Tiny take advantage of this FREE program to ensure safety in their home/cottage.

Also in 2015, the Township's open burning by-law was amended to prohibit the burning of leaves, effective January 1, 2016. Failure to abide by this restriction may result in fines and/or charges for fire department attendance.

Working together, we can and will make the Township of Tiny a fire-safe community.
